Permanent Lighting and Hail Season: What to Know

What we can honestly say about roofline lights and spring storms, and the questions to bring to a design consult.

Hail season is a real part of life around San Antonio and the Hill Country, and we do not promise that any lighting is hail-proof. What we can say is that the housing is sealed and the track sits low along the roofline. Questions about your specific roof are best answered at the free design consult.

The honest answer first

Spring brings storms to South Texas, and some of them bring hail. Anyone putting something on a roofline should ask what happens in a storm. Nobody can promise a roofline stays untouched in every storm, and we will not pretend otherwise.

So this article stays with facts we can stand behind and with the questions worth asking. We would rather you ask them than guess.

What is sealed and low-profile

The LEDs are inside a housing that is waterproof and anti-UV sealed. The track mounts flush along the roofline and is low-profile, so it does not stick out the way a hanging string of lights would.

These are design facts, not weather promises. We do not state a hail size, a wind speed, or an impact rating for the product.

Questions to ask any installer

Ask how the track attaches to your roofline and what it is mounted on. Ask who handles questions if you are concerned after a storm. Ask what you should look at after severe weather, and who to call.

You are welcome to ask us all of these. For roof specific questions, such as your roof material, your roof age, or past storm damage, we look at the house in person at the design consult, or you can call us at (830) 266-7362.

Talk to your roofer and your insurer

Your roof is a separate investment from your lighting. If you have had hail damage, or you are planning a roof replacement, it is smart to sequence the work. Mention any planned roof work when you talk to us so we can plan around it.

Insurance policies differ, and we do not give advice about what yours covers. Your insurance agent is the right person for that conversation.

Where this matters most

If you are comparing options

When you talk to any installer, ask the same plain questions: what is the housing made of, how are the LEDs rated, how is it attached, and how do you control it? Write the answers down and compare them side by side.

We are happy to answer all of them at the free design consult, and where we do not know something about your specific roof, we will say so instead of guessing. Specific numbers for your house, such as how the track runs along your gables, come from walking the roofline, not from a phone call.

Keeping expectations realistic

A good installer tells you what a product is designed to do and where its limits are. The sealed housing, the low-profile track, and the flush mount are design choices that help. They do not make a roofline storm-proof, and no one honest can say otherwise.

What we can offer is a clear conversation, a look at your actual roof, and an app that lets you control how and when the lights run, including turning them off if you prefer.

Planning around the season

Whenever you install, the app lets you shape how and when the lights run, and you can turn them off ahead of a storm if you like.
